Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder which affects many people worldwide. Usually it is a non-curable but it may go up and down. It is different from the traditional acne. Generally it affects the central part of the face and nose and the area which normally blush. This area includes chin, forehead and the lower part of the nose. Symptoms and signs of rosacea include:

1.    Areas of redness on your face

2.    Small red bumps or pustules on your nose, cheeks, forehead, and/or chin

3.    Small blood vessels on your nose and/or cheeks (called telangiectasia)

4.    Tendency to flush or blush

Causes of Rosacea

A number of factors that can trigger rosacea have been identified. Some of these factors include:

1.    Certain foods or drinks (e.g. spicy foods, alcohol)

2.    Low levels of stomach acid

3.    Constipation

4.    Hormonal imbalance

5.    Nutritional deficiencies (especially of B vitamins)

6.    Certain medications (e.g. Corticosteroids, drugs that dilate blood vessels, including some blood pressure medications)

7.    Temperature extremes

8.    Sunlight

Diet for Rosacea

Diet rich in vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C and zinc is highly recommended for reducing and removing Rosacea skin eruptions by facilitation the process of healing by strengthening the blood capillaries and boosting the immune system. Omega 3 fatty acids found in flaxseed oil and fish oils are also beneficial for skin.

Besides, restrict the consumption of alcoholic and caffeinated beverages as they tend to aggravate Rosacea. It has been observed that dairy products (except cottage cheese) and foods like spinach, eggplant, avocado, red plum, raisins, figs, yeast extract etc can also trigger Rosacea in certain individuals.

Home Remedies

1.    Beta-carotene, which the body uses to make vitamin A, helps to strengthen capillaries and is healing for the skin. Take 25,000 international units twice daily.

2.    The B vitamins, especially vitamin B2 (riboflavin), are necessary for healthy skin, hair, and nails. Take a vitamin-B complex containing 100 milligrams of most of the major B vitamins daily.

3.    Vitamin C raises immunity, promotes healing, and strengthens connective tissue. Bioflavonoids are anti-inflammatory and help to strengthen blood vessels, and work with vitamin C. Take 500 milligrams of vitamin C with bioflavonoids three times a day

4.    Zinc also helps to heal the skin. Take 25 milligrams twice a day, with meals and with 1 milligram of copper.

5.    Flaxseed oil supplies essential fatty acids that help to reduce inflamma tion. Take 1,000 milligrams or 1 teaspoon three times a day

Prevention tips for Rosacea

1.    Eat a diet that emphasizes raw vegetables and grains, organically grown if possible.

2.    Avoid fats, especially saturated fats, and all animal products. Saturated fats promote inflammation. Also avoid alcohol, caffeine, cheese, chocolate, cocoa, dairy products, eggs, fat, fish, salt, sugar, and spicy foods.

3.    As much as possible, avoid wearing makeup. If you do use cosmetics, choose all-natural, water-based products.

4.    Friction is extremely irritating, so avoid wearing tight clothing such as turtlenecks that can rub against the skin. Be careful about anything that comes close to or into contact with your face. Even holding the telephone receiver against your face for a while can raise the local temperature and irritate sensitive skin.
