HELP!! I just came back from the vet with my 12 yr old cat and she has a big lump on her belly side.?

I thought it was a boil because it was leaking smelly stuff, like a sebaceous cyst, but the vet said she has a tumor that has fissured. VERY BAD NEWS right now b/c I am in a financial bind and cannot afford $800-1200 operation. Anyone know of a place in NYC area where I can have her treated. I might be able to afford SOME $, but not as much as stated. Also any home treatments (short of operating) I will consider. Otherwise I may have to put her down. She has been an indoor cat her whole life, so this is nothing from outside. Thanks to all that answer.

A veterinary oncologist is perhaps the person best suited to give you an answer, but as you stated, you are in a financial bind. Some vets that provide credit simply do that through companies that charge 18-25% interest, so be careful.

I battled a cancerous tumor with one of my cats, and she eventually lost the battle. So I know what your are going through. My cat also was indoor only.

While it may be painful for you, when we adopt a beloved pet, there are two things we must do for them. One is to give them the best care we can. That is easy. The second part is that when the quality of their life is no longer there, we give them release. That is the hardest thing one can ever have to do.

Good luck in finding assistance for an operation. Some of the posters have given suggestions. My cat’s tumor was such that it could not be entirely cut out, so it came back. The veterinary oncologist had a fantastic procedure, and I could see the tumor melt away. Unfortunately, upon the second treatment, she almost died from shock. That sealed her fate.

Sometimes reality forces the decision. Just remember whatever the decision you make, let no one second guess what you should or should not have done.
